WHAT NEWSPAPER SHOULD YOU READ?

The news is always a hot topic, you can’t get away with not having a clue anymore. But there’s so many papers to choose from, all written differently, all with slightly different stories and different aspects. It is therefore hard to know which one to pick up.

Many people will have a personal favourite but in my eyes, there is only one paper to read and this is why.

The paper to read is most definitely, ‘The Times’ but why?

Firstly it is, without a doubt sophisticated, you won’t get that patronising glare from the person

sat opposite you in the cafe, like you would when reading some other papers (i.e The Mirror).

As well as this it’s a relatively easy read, the editors tend to steer away from the over exuberant vocabulary that you may find in say ‘The Guardian/Observer’ for example.

Furthermore, ‘The Times’ does not have a stereotypical reader as such. For example many people stereotype ‘The Telegraph’ with the older generation and ‘The Guardian/Observer’ with Volvo drivers. I know that stereotypes are of course no more than that but lets be honest, everyone is still a little conscious.

There are of course, other reasons to choice ‘The Times’. A further point is that the grammar is actually on point. It won’t be like putting the pieces together when attempting to read ‘The Mail’, you may as well do a dot to dot if you’re going to read that.

There is always of course the questionability of the material you find in newspapers, ‘is it true?’, ‘have they made it up?’. Of course there is no way of telling for sure, statistics do however show that, 3/4 of ‘The Mails’ so called “facts” are actually false or inaccurate.

I’m sure that you are aware, steer clear of anything with red on. Seriously you may as well walk in and buy a children's magazine instead. The likes of ‘The Star’ and ‘The Mirror’ just don’t lower yourself to that. Unless you need paper to start a fire it really isn’t worth your money, even then it’s still questionable.

The next question is, should you subscribe?

Honestly I would say no. I mean do you really have time every day to sit down and read a full newspaper? If you do, I want your job because I most certainly don’t.

My advice would be to grab the one from the local cafe, while you drink your coffee in the morning and have a read. Then discuss it with other people, the likelihood is they'll be interested in different aspects than you. By the end of the day you'll be up to date.

However there is of course the option of a paper a week subscription, maybe ‘The Sunday Times’. Theres an idea, then at least once a week you can have a full breakdown of the news. Also you’re not paying out an extortionate subscription fee to only read the covers.

There is j

ust one more thing to keep your eyes peeled for. Look out for the ‘Mr Porter Post’, its a great little paper. However totally different to the usual politics and all of that spiel. The ‘Mr Porter Post’ is a fashion and lifestyle paper, its definitely worth a read. You may find it in one of your local cafes or fashion stores. If not I would recommend attempting to email them online, see if they’ll add you to the exclusive subscription list. You won’t know unless you ask right? I can’t promise anything, its usually only available to the select few but give it a go.

This is unless you are lucky enough to live by a distributor. Then they quite literally hand them out for free. Sadly I am not lucky enough to be in the close vacinity of one.

That should just about round that one off. I hope you enjoyed the read.

Cheers and gone.
